WWE RAW Preview: CM Punk vs. The World

Here's a look at the official WWE RAW preview for tonight, courtesy of WWE.com...

After seeing the WWE Championship move to SmackDown, and failing to win a World Championship back to Raw at Night of Champions, Monday nights once again have a World Title.

CM Punk cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to challenge and defeat Edge, bringing the World Heavyweight Championship to Raw and even going on to defend it in the same night against JBL.

Though Raw suffered a dearth of World Titles for a period, there is no lack of former World Champions, eager to end the Straightedge Superstar’s title reign, including John Cena, Batista and JBL. Which of these men will step forward in search of gold, and will Punk be able to hold them off?

Though Raw is no longer lacking a World Title, there is a conspicuous absence on the program in the form of Mr. McMahon. The WWE Chairman was injured at the end of the June 23 Raw when the set collapsed and he was buried underneath a ton of lighting equipment.

Paul Heyman Praises Edge

It would be an understatement to say that Paul Heyman is a fan of Edge.

The former owner of ECW is a major, major fan of Edge.

Just take a look at some of what Heyman had to say about the WWE's best heel in a recent column for Great Britan's The Sun:

"A phenomenal worker with rock star looks, Copeland knows how to present the "Edge" character so no one has the inclination to cheer him.

His charisma alone could carry an entire show - and, bluntly, he's had Smackdown on his shoulders for longer than most people realize - but Copeland's portrayal of the scheming, manipulative, opportunistic Edge is played in such a way that you simply want to see him get beat or perhaps more importantly, beat up."

Edge Wins!

We agree with Paul Heyman: Edge is the best heel in the business.

Regarding his promo on last week's WWE RAW, Heyman said the following about Edge:

"Edge's range was amazing, too. From the frothing-at-the-mouth-anticipation of JR screaming "Edge wins! Edge wins! Edge wins!" to the envisioned-orgasm as he described "the love of my life" - dramatic pause, then emphasis - "Vickie Guerrero," Edge's promo was, as they say, one for the ages.

He had such heel heat by the time he punked out everyone from Ross to Undertaker to the Raw program itself, people were salivating at the mere thought that someone, somehow, someday would just smash this bastard.

Batista came out and delivered a ferocious beating to Edge, and the live audience came unglued."

WWE Diva Photo of the Day: Michelle McCool

Michelle McCool is officially the number-one contender for the new WWE Divas title on Smackdown.

If that honor isn't deserving of a photo tribute, we don't know what is. Here's a nice new shot of McCool:

WWE Spoilers: Smackdown Results, 7-4-08

WWE Smackdown rings in the Fourth of July tomorrow night with the following results...

- MVP's guest in the VIP Lounge was Triple H. After some back and forth banter between the two, footage is shown of Edge losing the World Heavyweight Title on Raw. Triple H brings up that Edge still has one thing going for him in that he is marrying a woman of power and how that is always a great move (get it?!?).

Vickie Guerrero comes out and announces Triple H vs. Edge for the WWE Title at the Great American Bash. Triple H makes more wedding jokes with Vickie and tells her they could always do the ceremony in Las Vegas.

- Michelle McCool won a star on a pole match to become the other #1 contender for the new Smackdown WWE Divas title.

- Jesse & Festus (with Festus dressed as Uncle Sam) defeated Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder. After the match, Edge came out and took out Festus with a steel chair.

- Jeff Hardy defeated WWE Tag Team Champion John Morrison.

- Umaga defeated Funaki.

- Matt Hardy defeated Mr. Kennedy, Chavo Guerrero and Carlito in a fatal four way to retain the WWE United States Title.

- Edge comes out to the ring and gets on the mic, saying he was going to reveal some of Vickie's "dark secrets." Vickie walked out and started yelling at Edge. Edge then called the wedding off. Vickie started to cry and threw her wedding ring down. Is anyone else beyond sick of wedding angles?

- (This may or may not air) Triple H and The Big Show defeated Edge and ECW Champion Mark Henry. Triple H got the pinfall on Henry when Edge left the ring.

ECW Rating Rises

ECW on Sci Fi drew a final 1.4 cable rating this week. The figure is a big increase from last week's 1.2 rating and one of the larger ratings the show has received since late March.

There's no way this can be due to an interest in Mark Henry as champion... can it?!?

Raw House Show Ads Highlight Possible WWE Spoilers, New Feuds

With all the moving and shaking that have followed the latest brand draft, the official website of Madison Square Garden has updated its card for the WWE Raw brand house show on Saturday, August 23.

In what could be a feud to come, CM Punk will be defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Batista in the main event.

Also, could a Kane heel turn be in the works? The Big Red Machine will be challenging Kofi Kingston for the Intercontinental Championship at the event.

Cards are always subject to change, but matches such as this are worth noting.

WWE Rumors: Jeff Hardy's Next Feud

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, a new feud on Smackdown may feature Shelton Benjamin against Jeff Hardy.

While this would match up two of the WWE's best in-ring workers, it would also feature two of the company's worst on the mic against one another.

Do you think a Shelton Benjamin versus Jeff Hardy feud would work?

Awful WWE Diva News: Ashley Massaro Asks for Release

Ashley Massaro posted a blog early this morning on her official MySpace page. Due to an illness in the family - Ashley's seven-year old daughter is sick - one of our favorite WWE Divas asked for her release.

Here's the blog entry:

some unfortunate news...this is the hardest decision i have ever had to make...

I have some thing to tell you guys and I wanted u 2 be the first 2 hear it...I tried very hard out of the respect I have for her privacy and not wanting her 2 be exposed in any negative light but I have a 7yr old daughter and I just found out 2day that she not well and I can't be on the road with WWE when my own flesh and blood needs me...

Love for Her Fans

We wish Ashley Massaro and her daughter nothing but the best.

I am a single parent trying 2 juggle taking care of my child and working my butt off for her and now at this point when she is sick and needs me home I have 2 make the decision 2 bow out of wwe for a while and take care of my daughter...I wish I could do both and that there were more ways 2 get everything done but with the severity of the situation I'm going 2 have 2 ask for an early release for now...

I may be back if she gets better...please keep her in your prayers...I love the wwe...I love all the talent that works there and most of all I love all the fans...thanks for always being so supportive...so this is me taking a bow and stepping out of the lime light right now to take care of my family
