Samoa Joe Speaks on TNA Title, WWE and More

The SamoanGreat Britain's The Sun conducted an interview with new TNA Champion Samoa Joe this week. Here are some highlights from it:

Whether TNA Wrestling waited too long to put the title on him: I’ve really never been concerned with that. A lot of fans say this title run is long overdue and that they can’t believe TNA haven’t given it to me until now. But, for me, that’s part of the build and anticipation. When things are overdue, and the fans want it bad enough, then that’s the time to make it happen.

On whether TNA's "homegrown" talent can reach the recognition level of Kurt Angle and Sting: It’s going to be a slow steady process. The company has hopes of brilliant leaps and bounds in a short space of time, but in reality it takes years to build that fan base and recognition.

On whether he has been approached to work for WWE: We’ve had talks. Right now, for where I’m at in my career and the position I’m in, TNA is better for me. As a performer you always want to work with everybody and get a shot at doing everything. But I’m in no real rush. I really enjoy working in TNA. And now I’ve got the belt – it’s time to make a legacy.

Samoa Joe always comes across well in interviews. He's candid about the industry and open about his hopes in it.  We wish him a long title reign.

TNA Wrestling Spoilers: iMPACT Results, 4-17-08

tagtitletrio.jpg The following are the results for TNA iMPACT, set to tonight...

The show opens with new champion Samoa Joe dedicating his title win and reign to the fans. Scott Steiner comes out and awards Petey Williams his X-Division title shot, then starts ripping on Joe about Sacrifice. Kurt Angle comes out and announces that he is going to use his rematch clause on next week's Impact.

Backstage, Rhino and Christian Cage arrive. Team 3D show up and try to plant the seed in Rhino's head that he can't trust Cage. Segment ends up with Team 3D, James Storm and Robert Roode all attacking them and laying them out.

TNA X-Division champion Jay Lethal pinned Johnny Devine. Petey Williams attacked Lethal and nailed a tornado DDT onto the title shot briefcase. Williams opened the briefcase and slammed Lethal's head inside it. He announces he is taking his title shot now, nails the Canadian Destroyer and pins Lethal for the belt. New X-Division champion.

Matt Morgan comes to the ring and cuts a promo on the sacrifices he made for Jim Cornette, only to be dismissed as part of TNA management. Morgan promised to be a "Blueprint" (his OVW nickname) for giants in professional wrestling.

Kaz and Super Eric capture the TNA Tag Team championship, defeating AJ Styles & Tomko and LAX in a Three-Way bout when Eric pinned Styles.

Rhino and Christian defeated Team 3D. Rhino accidentally gored Cage, but then Devon accidentally clotheslined Ray and Rhino scored the pin. Afterwards, 3D got into it with each other and security separated them.

Jim Cornette, AJ Styles and Tomko come to the ring to resolve the Tag Team championship issue. Kaz and Super Eric come out and Super Eric acts as if he doesn't know who Eric Young is. Jim Cornette strips them of the tag titles, but won't give the belts back to Styles and Tomko. He says he will make an official decision next week.

TNA Knockout champ Awesome Kong defeated Roxxi. After the match Kong and Saheed beat down Roxxi Laveaux until Gail Kim and ODB made the save.

Booker T & Sting & BG James defeated Robert Roode & James Storm & Kip James after Matt Morgan interfered. Booker gets upset Morgan got involved and has words with him and Sting.

Jim Ross Defends Mike Adamle

Mike AdamleJim Ross has updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. In it, the best WWE announced of all-time tells fans to be patient with the company's latest one:

"I spoke with Mike Adamle, who replaced Joey (Styles), at length Monday night after Raw about his new assignment. Mike is a former world class athlete who played in the NFL so Mike’s natural, competitive nature will help the former running back in his new venture.

Wrestling fans can be tough to please at times and there is no doubt that Mike will have to earn the audience’s confidence, which will be a work in progress.

"Hopefully, wrestling fans will give Adamle the opportunity to settle in and develop his wrestling broadcasting skills..."

We'll give him time, JR. But the guy didn't seem to know basic wrestling holds and even failed to announced superstars' names correctly on Tuesday night. How much leeway does he get?

TNA Knockouts News: Backstage Interviewer, Makeover Battle Royal

We talk a lot about WWE Divas (and can you blame us?), but don't worry TNA Knockouts. We haven't forgotten about you.

Here are a couple pieces of news regarding these TNA Wrestling beauties:

- A new backstage interview girl by the name of Lauren Brooke debuted at Sunday's TNA Lockdown. She was hired at the urging of Spike TV officials, who want more women involved in the backstage segments on Impact. Crystal Louthan is likely to continue in her similar role, as well, as TNA will simply have two women doing the backstage announcing.

- It was announced at this week's Impact taping that all of the Knockouts will be participating in a "Makeover Battle Royal" at TNA Sacrifice; the final two competitors will compete right then and there in a Ladder Match. The loser of the match will receive a "Britney Spears Makeover" by having her head shaved bald.

Samoa Joe Clarifies Contract Situation

During an interview with The Stranglehold radio show on KFNS radio in St. Louis, Samoa Joe said he'll be signing a new contract with TNA Wrestling. He explained the holdup in negotiations has been an issue with trademarks.

"I believe tomorrow me and TNA will be coming to terms," Joe said. "We had some trademark issues to work out and that's actually been stalling the process... I had trademarks pending and now they got put through, and just the timetable wasn't right. TNA, of course, they want to get me signed and locked down. I mean, I do have their championship. I believe by tomorrow I should be signed, sealed, and delivered to TNA."

Ric Flair Honored by Congress

Yesterday morning, Congresswoman Sue Myrick made a speech on the floor of the United States House of Representatives honoring Ric Flair. Seriously. This is what our Congress is spending time doing.

Rhino Speaks on TNA Wrestling, WWE

After speaking with Kurt Angle and Gail Kim, Kevin Eck of The Baltimore Sun has now published an interview with former WWE superstar, and current TNA wrestler, Rhino.

Here are excerpts from it:

normal_rhino2.jpg Can you talk about the growth you have seen in TNA since you’ve been in the company and where you see things headed?
Yeah, it’s amazing. I came in a little under three years ago and we didn’t even have a TV deal. They were working on it, and Spike jumped aboard and the relationship to my knowledge has been great. The future looks great for the company. It’s growing each day, as far as the departments – whether it’s merchandise or the promotional team or just in the office. They’re hiring people because we’re growing so fast – the international market is just exploding and the fan base over here.

We’re running a lot of live events. I think we have 70 to 80 right now this year, and they’re adding more shows as we speak. Dixie [Carter, TNA owner] doesn’t want to go on the road as much as our competition because she wants us to have a family life, too. But we’ve got to take the wrestling to the fans. We can’t expect them to come down to Orlando or wherever we’re having our pay-per-views – 12 different venues a year.

What else do you think TNA has to do to get to the next level and become legitimate competition for WWE?
I think raising my pay a lot (laughs). I think we’re on the right track. It’s exploding. Obviously, when other wrestlers’ contracts come up with other companies or some wrestlers want to come back from Japan, certain moves will help out the company as far as signing guys. The guys that we have under contract like Shark Boy – I’m a big fan of his. The stuff he’s doing, it’s great.

All the guys here are elevating themselves. They’re given an opportunity and they’re taking advantage of it. So that raises the product. If some people do become part of the TNA team that aren’t with us now, I’m sure they’ll be a team player and help the company, and that will help the growth, too.

WWE Results: ECW, 4-15-07

ECW goes straight to the announcers table and Tazz states the news we reported last night: Joey Styles must resign his duties as the play-by-play commentator. However, he will move on to bigger and better things as he will provide the fans with what they want over at WWE.com.

Styles thanks everyone for the wonderful time he has spent on ECW and introduces Tazz’s new broadcast partner: Mike Adamle.

- CM Punk and Kofi Kingston and Shannon Moore and Jimmy Wang Yang defeated Elijah Burke and Shelton Benjamin and Deuce and Domino. Benjamin tossed Punk to ringside and the two teams stared each other down and bickered on the floor at ringside as the show went to break. The heels took control of Yang until he made a hot tag to Kofi, who cleaned house on the heels. Kofi his usual offense, including the Welcome to Paradise kick, on Deuce and scored the pin.

Tazz introduced Layla, Maryse, Eve, Lena, and Kelly Kelly for a dance contest. Tazz gave a quick demonstration and joked that people had to pay to see more from him. Layla danced. Maryse did that dance that strippers who have no rhythm do. The crowd booed.

Eve went next. Tazz joked that she stole some of his moves. Lena was just a notch better than Maryse. Kelly didn't really dance, but she did a couple backflips. The crowd cheered for Kelly. Yawn

- Mike Knox defeated Colin Delaney. Total squash. All Knox.

Undertaker and Kane beat John Morrison and The Miz. Taker dominated Miz right away and then threw him over the top rope. Taker placed Miz's head over the edge of the ring and went for a legdrop while standing on the ring apron, but Morrison cut him off with a clothesline as the show went to break.

The heels got in some offense while working against Kane. But Taker tagged back into the match and they simultaneously chokeslammed Morrison and Miz for the win.

Write in now and let us know: Do you like Mike Adamle as an announcer?

WWE News: Latest on Big Daddy V

As previously reported, Big Daddy V was sent home because WWE officials were concerned about his health and wanted him to drop some weight.

According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Big Daddy V won't be able to return to the ring until he loses 50 pounds. Could take awhile.
