WWE Stars Post Thoughts on 9/11

Five years ago today, America was attacked by terrorists. Everyone remembers where he or she was at that time. WWE superstars, of course, are no different.

The company website, therefore, has an article posted regarding wrestler's memories from the tragic day. Here are some excerpts from it:

Live Smackdown, 9/13/01

- King Booker was set to perform in his home town of Houston that night.

“I just got up and flipped on the TV like normal, and I actually saw the second plane going into the Trade Center," the World Heavyweight Championsaid. "Referee Nick Patrick was staying with me; I woke him up and told him we had something going on here. We sat there and watched the chaos, just trying to realize what we were watching.”

- Jim Ross and Paul Heyman were on announcing duties.

"Going into the show, it was hard to keep your mind on anything with all the tragedy and trauma that New York City and the country was experiencing,” J.R. said. "We had several people who had friends or relatives that were lost in the World Trade Center; I didn’t know anyone personally that perished, but I felt for everyone as an American ... We felt it was our obligation to give the world just a little bit of a break, some sort of entertainment."

- Triple H also wanted to be there, but he had torn his quadriceps muscles earlier in 2001. He was in Alabama rehabilitating the injury on Sept. 11. The Game still felt a sense of pride being part of WWE.

“I was very proud to be involved with WWE because of that. That was a global event that changed the world, and to be the first public assembly of that kind … in a terrorist attack, what they want you to do is to change your lifestyle. That show was us, not as WWE or as wrestlers but as Americans, saying F you. You’re not going to change the way we are, we’re going to do what we do because that’s who we are.”

Sean Waltman to Join DX? Feud with NWO on the Way?

WWE rumor mills are swirling regarding the future of DX.

Anyone Miss This Guy?

After the duo were victorious in its match, former member Sean Waltman (aka X-Pac) made a surprisde visit to the ring to celebrate with Triple H and Shawn Michaels. The crowd went bonkers.

We're not sure why - who was ever really a fan of X-Pac?

Also making the WWE gossip rounds is a possible feud with the NWO. It may just be Internet nonsense, but chat rooms are buzzing with the possibility that Scott Hall and Kevin Nash may be brought in to face DX down the line.

What is this, 1997? How about some new blood or new feud, Vince?

Batista to Make Cameo on Smallville

Evidently, The Animal might be a friend of Superman.

Fresh off his latest attempt to win back the Heavyweight Title, Batista will appear as a guest star on a November episode of Smallville, one of the new CW Network's biggest hits.
The TV series focuses on the Clark Kent as a younger Superman, as he learns to deal with his powers and the responsibilites they bring.

Let's hope Batista does well. But not well. We don't wanna lose him from the ring like we did with The Rock.

Finlay Makes a New Enemy: Smackdown Results, 9-8-06

The following report is courtesy of wrestleview.com ...

Match 1: Finlay vs. Rey Mysterio

- Finlay talked trash to Mysterio, then hit a headlock takedown. Mysterio countered into a headscissors. Finlay rolled around and managed to escape, moving into a headlock. He hit a nice uppercut and talked more trash to Mysterio, asking him if something's wrong. Finlay put Mysterio up on his shoulders, then hung him up on the top rope. A loud Finlay sucks chant came from the crowd. Mysterio blocked a punched and fired back with a few shots, but Finlay regained control with a knee to the midsection before whipping him into the turnbuckle hard. Finlay covered, but Mysterio got his foot on the bottom rope. Finlay hit a nice tilt-a-whirl slam and covered, but Mysterio kicked out at two before bailing to the outside to try to get refocused.

Finlay over Rey

Finlay swung on the ropes to kick Mysterio on the outside. Finlay held up his arms in victory in the ring. Mysterio finally got back in the ring. Finlay drove him into the corner twice. Mysterio collapsed. Finlay hit his seated senton drop to the back twice. Finlay went for the Boston crab and locked it in. Mysterio tried escaping by kicking Finlay in the head, but Finlay turned and adjusted the submission into something different. Finlay continued to hold onto one leg, but Mysterio managed to reach the bottom rope. Finlay went after Mysterio in the corner, but Mysterio moved and Finlay went shoulder first into the turnbuckle. Mysterio hit leg kicks. Finlay tried to hit a sunset flip, but Mysterio rolled through and kicked Finlay in the side of the head! He hooked the leg, but Finlay kicked out at two.

Mysterio went out to the apron and hit the springboard seated senton! He hooked the leg, but Finlay kicked out. Finlay went for a slam, but Mysterio slid out and hit the drop toehold to set up the 619. Finlay stood up, but Mysterio ducked a clothesline. He went for a springboard move to follow up, but it looked like he screwed it up by missing the ropes when he jumped toward them and bounced off. Finlay went to follow up and hit the celtic cross finisher, covering and picking up the win.

JBL got in the ring and said he had an obligation to all these Smackdown fans who Rey just disappointed after he embarrassed himself once again. He asked if the reason Rey's wrestling had become such a disgrace was because the woman he thought loved him slapped the taste out of his mouth, that being Vickie Guerrero. Rey pushed the mic aside. JBL said that they've got to know and that the Smackdown fans deserve that. He asked if the reason he's not himself could be because the entire Guerrero family has deemed Rey a piece of trash. He held the mic out for the answer, but Rey just looked sad and upset and turned away. Rey started leaving the ring and practically collapsed down to the floor as he lowered himself to leave. Mysterio paused as he walked up the ramp and looked ready to cry before continuing.

Match 2: United States Champion Ken Kennedy vs. Danny Giamondo

- Kennedy went for a go behind and took down Giamondo. Cole pointed out on commentary that what Kennedy said about Giamondo was, in fact, not true. Kennedy hit a running elbow drop, followed by a back suplex. Kennedy delivered a running leg to Kennedy in the ropes, then sent him off the ropes and beat down Giamondo in the corner. Kennedy hit a running facewash to Giamondo in the corner. Kennedy covered, but Giamondo kicked out. Kennedy put on a vise on Giamondo's head. Giamondo made a brief comeback and hit some headbutts to Kennedy's shoulder. He tried to follow up with a corner splash but got hung up on the top rope. Kennedy grabbed him and went up to the second rope, where he delivered his rolling fireman's carry slam to the mat.

Teddy Long announce that Kennedy would face the Undertaker at No Mercy on October 8.

WWE Apologizes for Steve Irwin Diss on ECW Show

It's nice to know the WWE has SOME moral line it feels badly about crossing.

Vince McMahon issued an apology for a remark Matt Striker made regarding Steve Irwin's death on Tuesday's ECW show.

"We at WWE apologize for the remark alluding to the death of Steve Irwin which was made on ECW on Sci Fi Tuesday night. The remark was, in the least, disrespectful to Mr. Irwin's fans and family," McMahon said on WWE.com Thursday.

Thank goodness. The insult was out of line.

During a promo in which he distanced himself from "dumb jocks," Striker said that fans would never catch him swimming with stingrays, referencing a the way in which Irwin died.

WWE Puts Out Unforgiven Press Release in Canada

Let's get right to it. The WWE has sent out the following press release:

TORONTO, Sept. 6 /CNW/ - On Sunday September 17, World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. returns to Toronto's Air Canada Centre with the sold-out pay-per-view extravaganza, Unforgiven.

Unforgiven will be a very important event for two of WWE's top Superstars: Edge and Trish Stratus. Edge will defend his WWE Championship against John Cena in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match - a match that Edge has never lost and John Cena has never participated in.

Orangeville, Ontario native Edge was voted "Most Likely to Become WWE Champion" in his high-school yearbook, and that prophecy has come true. This is the second time that Edge has held the coveted WWE Championship and the first time that he will defend it in front of a hometown crowd.

Unforgiven Time

"Nothing can top the feeling of being the WWE Champion - this is spectacular," Edge said, "this is a really triumphant moment, not only for me, but also for everyone who has supported my career throughout the years: my family, my friends and my fans. How many times does the guy who's voted "Most Likely to Become WWE Champion" actually get to defend that Championship in his hometown?"

Unforgiven will also be a landmark occasion for Toronto's darling Trish Stratus and her fans. After an impressive and lengthy career in WWE, the reigning Diva of the Decade, three-time Babe of the Year and six-time Women's Champion has decided to retire, and her final match will take place at Unforgiven.

"I've worked hard, and when you combine WWE and my prior fitness modeling, I've spent the last decade of my life on the road...traveling, being away from home and just working," Trish said.

Commenting on the fact that her last match will be for the Women's Championship and in her home town, Trish added:

"No matter where my final match took place, it would always be special ... but if this were a fairy tale, the writer couldn't come up with a better scenario. My family, my friends ... I couldn't ask for a more perfect scenario. To survive and prosper in this industry, all the sacrifices, you have to have the support of the people closest to you, and to go out in front of the people who always supported me is fitting for the moment."

WWE Divas Comment on Retirement of Trish Stratus

As much as we were hoping that our Unforgiven spoiler would be false, it appears as though Trish Stratus really is retiring after the pay-per-view.

Yowza

We'll miss her. So will other WWE Divas, according to an article on WWE.com. Here are some of their reactions:

Candice: “I was really surprised. She’s at the top of her game, and I guess she’s just leaving on a good note. In her mind, it’s her time to retire, and I’m just happy for her.”

Ashley: “I was really upset when I found out Trish is retiring. She has obviously been a very good friend to me. She was the first one to take me under her wing, she was my first tag partner, she taught me a lot and I was really upset when I found out. I’m not gonna lie, I really felt choked up."

Even Mickie James, who began her career as a major rival of Trish's, had the following to say:

“When [Trish] started on WWE, I was actually starting on the independent level, so watching her grow as a performer at the same time as I was doing it in a much smaller league was really cool. Just to see how far she had come in all that time, it was truly amazing."

The Rock Talks About Gridiron Gang, Real-Life Experiences/Similarities

As always, The Rock is a busy man. He spent time last week greeting troops and holding a special screening of his new film, Gridiron Gang for our heroes.

Still, The Great One found time for an interview with MTV, in which he talks about the upcoming movie - hitting theaters September 15 - and how it relates to his real-life experiences.

In the flick, The Rock portrays probation officer Sean Porter. He leads a youth-football team typical in many ways ... except for the fact that its roster is made up entirely of offenders from a juvenile detention center.
The Rock and Xzibit
The hard-nosed kids have been caught up in often gang-related crimes involving guns and store robbery. It may be a movie, but The Rock is adamant that such real-life offenders, such as himself growing up, deserve a shot at change.

"Every kid deserves a second chance," he said. "A lot of these kids, with their past, where they came from, they never even had a first chance. We've got to realize that. That's our responsibility as adults."

The former WWE wrestler got so into the role that he injured himself during shooting.

Porter must be proud. The ex-coach believed early on that football would be the ideal vehicle to instill core values into the kids, hopefully reversing the effects of negative and selfish thinking.

"In baseball, if the pitcher throws a no-hitter, what's your left fielder doing all day?" asked the real-life Porter, who was spending the day alongside his Hollywood alter ego. "But in football, if your left guard doesn't block anybody all day, you're in trouble. Football takes 11 people; [it] forces the kids to make different choices, to work together."
