John Cena Trains for The Marine, Meets the Marines

This is a message to all the recruits and servicemen and women involved in the United States Marine Corps: I, John Cena, want to thank you for the opportunity to have a portion of the respect that it is to be a Marine. Being in the WWE Films movie, The Marine, is an honor. Coming to Parris Island is a privilege ... It was an honor and privilege to be here among the men and women who are sweating it out and earn it right here on Parris Island. We love you.

John Cena - the new WWE World Champion - spoke those words from experience. He recently trained with marine on the rural island of South Carolina’s Lowcountry. WWE.com has the story.

“I got my ass whipped,” Cena admitted.

Cena Trains

As the star of the upcoming WWE Films release, The Marine, Cena wanted to get a taste of what the brave young men and women who enlist as Marines must endure at boot camp at the United States Marine Corps Recruit Depot Eastern Recruiting Division at Parris Island, S.C.

He certainly found out.

Cena started his day at Parris Island during the late morning, meeting Marines personnel and chatting with a few Marines at the base’s newspaper, The Boot. He then changed into a uniform, complete with boots and a USMC T-shirt, and was whisked away for an autograph signing at a chow hall on the base. Several hundred WWE fans, including Marines and their families, waited in a long line to see the Superstar.

“It means a lot that John Cena is here today. It helps motivate all the Marines and keep them focused that there’s people out there who respect them and appreciate what they’re doing. And for him to take the time out to come and share that with us, especially after starring in The Marine, representing us, it shows a lot of love to us,” said Sgt. Stephen Mitchell.

Latest, Possible TNA Wrestling Spoiler for Big Announcement

The suspense keeps building for the announcement at No Surrender on Sunday - and what kind of wrestling site would we be if we didn't report every rumor?

While the reports of Vince Russo taking a role on the TNA booking committee are accurate, PWTorch.com reports that Russo's signing will NOT be TNA's major announcement on Sunday.

We have no idea if this is related or not, but Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger are booked for Monday's iMPACT! tapings. Aging, old WCW stars to appear on TNA wrestling? That does sound pretty valid.

There's also a good chance that Spike TV and TNA are very close to reaching a deal for a new timeslot.

WWE Rumors: Wrestlemania Location, Match Debated

  • It's never too late to plan way ahead: the WWE is already working on locations for WrestleMania 24 in 2008. PW Insider says the front runner is Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Grand Arena.
  • Hulk Hogan has pitched the idea of wrestling the WrestlemaniaBig Show at WrestleMania 23. It’s unknown exactly how serious the WWE is taking such a concept, but many wish to establish Big Show as the main ECW guy for years to come. A program with Hogan could help. Unless the legend just goes right over him, as it often the case in feuds such as this.
  • There have been talks between Kurt Angle and UFC. However, the main concern is Angle’s health and whether he could pass the drug test to fight on that level. Daniel Puder has also been saying he wants to fight Angle in 2007 and has officially met with UFC to discuss it.

TNA Wrestling Spoiler: Pay-Per-View Surprise Announced

How huge can the surprise on the TNA pay-per-view event, No Surrender, be if it doesn't even involve a wrestler? We're about to find out.

Reports are coming in that this announcement is nothing more than the hiring of Vince Russo has head booker. Gee, that worked out very well for the WWE last time, didn't it?

Apparently, TNA has ordered that Russo not include any "sleaze" on the program, causing us to wonder what he can possibly offer in that case. One thing the move almost definitely guarantees?

No chance of Bill Goldberg showing up in a TNA wrestling ring any time soon.

WWE Superstars Take Mexico by Storm

Think the WWE is only popular in the United States? Think again.

According to WWE.com, superstars received a huge welcome when they arrived at the airport in Mexico City this week. Along with WWE RAW wrestlers, SmackDown participants Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero were met by a massive crowd of thousands of WWE fans and countless media outlets.

“I just saw the new WWE Champion John Cena,” shouted one excited female fan, with tears in her eyes, decked out in Chain Gang gear, holding a sign reading “Congratulations, John Cena!"

A wide-eyed boy in a DX shirt shouted above the bedlam, “I am here to see Triple H and Shawn Michaels. DX is my favorite!”

Please Excuse Rey

While the Mexican WWE fans were happy to see the RAW stars, they were elated to see their home country heroes, Chavo and Mysterio, who were equally thrilled to be in Mexico.

“Coming from Mexico, I can go back to my roots and wrestle Mexican style and add a little flavor to the American style,” Mysterio said. “It’s a different type of crowd, but I think it’s like any other country we go to. They’re so Americanized. They follow what’s going on, on TV… That makes it a lot better for us because they’re updated to what we’re giving them on TV. The fans are incredible.”

“This is extremely important,” Guerrero said. “We’re not just representing SmackDown or WWE; we’re representing Mexico.”

Of course, there's another reason why wrestling translates well to another culture? We mean, come on, have you see WWE Divas?!?

WWE Releases The Boogeyman

This is very troubling, shocking news, we know.

The Boogeyman is Gone

But the WWE has officially released Marty "The Boogeyman" Wright from the company. He had been part of the Smackdown! brand, but hadn't appeared on TV since WrestleMania 22.

While out of the ring since April, Wright had been rehabbing leg injuries. He was reportedly close to being ready to return to action this month as promos were airing announcing as much on Smackdown!. However, WWE management were said to have been unhappy with his commitment to return to the ring, mostly questioning why Wright hadn't been checking in with doctors when he was supposed to.

He had been warned a few times about his conduct, but made no effort to change his behavior and was then let go by the company. We sort of assume no one even realized The Boogeyman was even gone.

Dramatic Drop in ECW Ratings

At this rate, ECW better hope it's still around for Survivor Series.

This week's edition on SCI-FI - which featured a main event of King Booker against Rob Van Dam -scored a 1.6 cable rating with a 2 share. That's a large decrease from last week's 1.9 rating.

Quarter hour numbers for ECW: were 1.4, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5 and 2.0.

ECW Added to Survivor Series Mix

Who will come out on top when Survivor Series celebrates its 20th anniversary this November? No matches are on the card yet, but we do know this much:

A few Extremists will be stopping by.

WWE.com has confirmed that ECW wrestlers will take part in the Thanksgiving time tradition. While further details are unclear, it should be a change of pace to have all three brands represented at a pay-per-view for the first time.

Kurt Angle (Basically) Confirmed for MMA Programs

See, we told you he wasn't going to TNA wrestling!

However, the following message has been posted on kurtanglewwe.com. It certainly implies that another organization is in this former WWE star's future. We'll reprint the entire thing below:

Intense Angle

Dear Angle Friends and Fans:

Kurt "The Machine" Angle wants to truly thank everyone for their concerns and best regards to his recovery and wellness. Kurt continues to read your kind messages and he feels truly blessed to have your support, as your well wishes continue to strengthen him mentally and physically. Kurt wants me to update you, he's happy to express his physical condition is fastly rebounding. When Kurt left WWE, he was beaten and battered down at a mirror 220. Over the past many weeks with the right rest, a wonderful wife who is preparing the ideal diet, daily physical therapy, and back to good strength training we are happy to report he's up to a solid 240 with about 85% full flexibility....

As you may have seen or heard the latest news, Kurt Angle is a huge fan of all MMA programs (K1, UFC, PRIDE, WEC, and IFL to name a few) this former Olympic Gold Medalist and Extreme Athlete has the heart and the deep driven passion to show he's the best of the best. Angle has his sight on a full physical recovery and plans a day to put it all on the line ...

This seems unfortunate. Fans, if you want Angle back in the WWE, let us know now!
