* Smackdown opens with a promo on The Undertaker defending the WWE World championship against Batista in a Steel Cage match.

* WWE United States champion Chris Benoit & Matt Hardy defeated MVP & Finlay in a solid bout after Benoit pinned MVP. The heels worked on Hardy's knee for a good portion of the bout and he limped all the way to the back.

* Michelle McCool defeated Jillian Hall with a spinning neckbreaker. Hall "sang a song" before the match started.

* Backstage, Teddy Long told Kristal Marshall to have Vickie Guerrero come to Smackdown next week. Guerrero's name was booed. A new "country looking team" (I believe KC and Cassidy James from OVW) appeared in the vignette and will be wrestling next week.

* They showed highlights of Edge capturing the Money in the Bank from Ken Kennedy on WWE Raw.

* Michael Cole and JBL interviewed Ashley Massaro, who said she can't wait to get back in the ring to take care of Jillian Hall.

* Paul London, with Brian Kendrick defeated WWE Tag Team champion Domino, with Deuce and Cherry. London hit a dropsault on Deuce, knocking him off the apron, and landing on Domino following the flip for the pin.

* Kane (with Boogeyman and Little Boogey) defeated Dave Taylor (with William Regal) after a clothesline. Boogey clotheslined Regal right before the finish.

* They announce Ozzy Osbourne will be performing live on Smackdown next week.

* WWE Cruiserweight champion Chavo Guerrero vs. Jimmy Wang Yang (Non-Title) after reversing a top rope powerbomb attempt. Good but short match.

Cage Match * The Undertaker vs. Batista for the WWE World championship inside a Steel Cage:
They announced the match can be won by pinfall, submission or escape. Undertaker got a huge pop while Batista received a mixed reaction. Undertaker's arm is heavily braced and protected. Batista's right knee and quad is also taped up. The first five minutes saw some near falls. The crowd completely turned on Batista as he took control. Batista tried to escape but taker crotched him on the top rope. Taker took control for a moment, then both men hit each other with a clothesline and went down. Batista regained control of the match. Batista nearly scored a pinfall but Taker kicked up and regained control.

He nailed a running clothesline in the corner then hit a big boot and a chokeslam for another near fall. Undertaker went for the Last Ride powerbomb but Batista countered and slammed Taker into the cage, busting him open. Batista nailed a spinebuster for a near fall. He tried to climb out of the cage but Undertaker caught him and nailed the Last Ride. Undertaker then tried to escape the cage. Batista began climbing out from another section of the cage, so both were trying to escape simultaneously. Both men hit the floor at the same time and it was announced as draw. Mark Henry came to ringside and attacked Taker.

Edge came out and cashed in his Money in the Bank title shot and began beating Taker, getting several near falls. Undertaker sat up, but was speared in the sitting position by Edge, who scored the pin. Edge is the new WWE World champion. The place went absolutely insane for the title change. After the match, Edge laid out Undertaker with the suitcase. Crowd then turned on Edge.

WWE Spoiler: World Title Change at Smackdown Tapings

Due to the injury to the Undertaker, the World Championship changed hands at this week's Smackdown tapings. But did Batista take home the gold?

No. WWE.com has actually alerted readers to the new champion itself. As the site says:

Smackdown Shocker: An opportunistic scheming Edge cashes in Money in the Bank to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

The New Champ

We'll have a more detailed report as the week unfolds.

- Matt Hardy beat Mr. Kennedy.

- Finlay beat The Miz.

- MVP beat Kane after William Regal & Dave Taylor returned and interfered in the match. No Chris Benoit this week, which is too bad, but MVP will be getting another U.S Title match.

WWE Spoilers: Future of the Undertaker as Champion

It has been confirmed that the Undertaker has suffered a complete tear to his biceps and will be out of action for the rest of the year.

Undertaker Photo WWE announced Tuesday night at the SmackDown tapings in Birmingham, Alabama that the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion will face Batista on next week’s edition of SmackDown in a cage match.

In all likelihood, Undertaker will drop the belt despite the original plan to give him a substantial run with the title.

The two most obvious candidates to replace Undertaker as champion are Batista, who is in next week’s match, and Mr. Kennedy who has the Money in the Bank title shot that he won at WrestleMania.

While the outcome of next week’s title match on SmackDown has yet to be confirmed, expect Undertaker to drop the belt due to the severity of his injury.

Smackdown starts with Batista attacking Kennedy backstage, getting quite a number of boos. Finlay comes to help Batista, and as Kennedy took over, the crowd cheered. They fought from backstage to down the aisle. And when the bell tolls, the lights go off, and turn back on again - Undertaker was standing in the middle of the ring. Lights off, Lights on, Taker is gone. Finlay and Kennedy run backstage, Batista slowly follows.

Backstage, Kennedy and Finlay say to Teddy that Batista vs Taker should be tonight, and not at Backlash. Long makes the match Undertaker and Batista vs Kennedy and Finlay in a no DQ match for later.

Smackdown Kane and Boogeyman vs Regal and Taylor: Lots of cheers for Regal, and "let's go Regal" chants. Taylor and Regal work Kane for most of the match, before Kane finally tags the boogeyman, which got huge cheers. Boogeyman does a few moves to Regal before pinning him after a double handed, sit down chokeslam. After the match, Boogeyman offers Kane some worms (tells him to eat them off the ground, but Kane laughed and declined) Nice opener.

Brian Kendrick vs Deuce: Both come down with their respective partners. Not an exciting match.. Quite a lot of headlocks at the start. Finish saw Domino beat on London, distracting Kendrick, and he walked into a flying kick from Deuce. Deuce pins for the win.

Jillian vs Michelle McCool: Jillian says that now that Prince William is single, he should give her a call sometime, before starting her singing... it's 10 times as bad and as piercing as on TV. Michelle McCool comes down to stop it. Not a bad woman's match to be honest, McCool is a decent wrestler and did minimal Diva moves like hair pulling and tossing. Jillian gets the victory and starts singing again, but McCool knocks her out.

MVP vs Jobber: MVP came down to a fair few cheers, but the start of his promo was hard to hear due to the amount of boos. He introduced a Scottish champion. Jobber comes out in William Wallace gear and facepaint before being squashed. MVP is about to announce his second opponent when Chris Benoit comes down to huge cheers and challenges him to a match.

MVP vs Benoit: Nice back and forth match, MVP leaves after escaping his secnd crossface, resulting in a count out.

Backstage, Teddy and Krystal proclaim their love for one another and say how they want to spend more time together. Teddy says he's going to give someone a lot more responsability so that he can take time off to be with her.

Finlay and Kennedy vs Batista and Taker: Taker's entrance gets huge cheers. Nice tag match, Old School to Kennedy then immidiately to Finlay. The the end sees Taker chokeslam both Finaly and Kennedy, but Batista comes in with a spinebuster to Finlay to secure the pin. Batista gets on the mic and says he is taking the title back at Backlash.

- WWE Tag Team champions Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs. Deuce & Domino: Deuce and Domino capture the belts. During the match, London did a moonsault to the floor but missed.
