Smackdown Outlook, Philosophy Changed

WWE has once again changed the philosophy behind its weekly Friday Night SmackDown! telecast.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE no longer views SmackDown! as the "wrestling" show and wants it booked more in accordance with the RAW template.

WWE officials point to the shakeups caused by the draft, which included Paul London, Brian Kendrick, King Booker, Mr. Kennedy and Chris Benoit leaving the show, as evidence that the brand no longer has the depth to run shows "the old way."

Vince McMahon personally changed a great deal of the most recent SmackDown! to reflect the new philosophy.

WWE Spoilers: Smackdown Results, 7-13-07

MVP comes to the ring and joins JBL and Cole. Matt Hardy is out next to face Chris Masters. Hardy won the match with a twist of fate. After the match. A Kane video package for the Great American Bash is shown.

Chavo Guerrero and Jamie Knoble vs. The Major Brothers is next. Chavo got good pop while The Major Brothers didn't receive much of anything. Major Brothers win with a missile dropkick on Chavo.

Vickie Guereero is backstage with The Great Khali's translator. Khali's translator backs him up and she is cornered into a locker-room.

Back from commercial as they are setting up for a contract signing, Khali beats up a random guy (indy wrestler) over a disagreement on the chairs that will be setup for the signing. He says he needs a bigger chair, etc.

A Rey Mysterio return video package is shown. Big pop.

Edge cuts a backstage promo and turns around to face the TV and Kane's face appears. When he turns around a second time, Kane's face is gone from the screen.

Teddy Long comes out for the contract signing and brings out Batista to a huge pop. Khali comes out next. Batista signs quickly, which is followed by Khali's translator going on a rant about how when Khali issues and open challenge he doesn't expect an 'Animal' to accept. Khali speaks some jibberish before being slapped by Batista. Khali tries to attack but the translator holds him back. Khali on the outside of the ring throws the ring steps inside. Batista throws them back outside before taking a table and tossing that, too.

A Local Jobber vs. Chuck Palumbo is up next. The jobber gets in one kick and is totally dominated. Palumbo did his motorcycle gimmick and surprisingly got a big pop.

Cherry, Deuce, & Domino are backstage. Eugene comes up and says he wants to ride in their car. They tell him that he can have one as long as he defeats Domino's opponent tonight without naming him. It's Eugene vs. Mark Henry. Eugene still has the green paint on his boots. Henry wins with a big hug. They all taunted Eugene and left.

Backstage segment with Torrie Wilson and Victoria. Victoria she's says the most dominate WWE Diva on SmackDown!. It's Torrie vs. Victoria in a few.

WWE Spoilers: Smackdown Results, 7-6-07

Smackdown opens with MVP vs. Matt Hardy. Hardy won a non-title match with the Twist Of Fate.

Backstage, Edge told Teddy Long that he didn't want to compete tonight. Long told him that was OK with that, but he would have a guest for him tonight in this week's episode of The Cutting Edge.

Chris Masters beat Jimmy Wang Yang with The Master lock. After this, The Great Khali came out and beat up Yang and issued an open challenge for the Bash.

The Major Brothers beat local guys, Mike Foxx and Jeremy Young.

Victoria then interrupted a photo shoot for Torrie Wilson and attacked her.

Khali was in the back and then attacked a stage hand after asking him if he wanted to accept his challenge at the Bash.

Chuck Palumbo beat Kenny Dykstra in a boring match that went way too long.

Deuce was wrestling Eugene when Khali came out and attacked them both. They asked if there was anyone brave enough to accept his challenge when Batista came out. They stared each other down and them Khali left.

It's time now for four The Cutting Edge. They must have handed out "Edge Sucks" signs because everyone in the front row has them and they are all the same. The guest on the segment is Kane. Edge sucked up to him, stating all of Kane's accomplishments. Then, he mentioned his own. Edge tried to end the interview there but Kane attacked him. Edge then said he would never step foot in the ring with Kane again. Teddy Long came out and said that at The Great American Bash it will be Edge vs. Kane for the title.

Will this be a good title match? Has Kane earned it? Comment now at our FORUMS.

WWE Spoilers: Smackdown Results, 6-29-07

The following Smackdown report is courtesy of lordsofpain.net...

Ric Flair def. Carlito by submission. Standard back and forth match, finish came when Carlito BADLY missed a dropkick (he practically stuck his leg out for Flair to catch), allowing Flair to counter into the figure four. Carlito reached the ropes, but Flair pulled Carlito back into the middle of the ring, dropped a few shots on the knee, and re-applied the figure four for the win.

Matt Hardy def. Lance Cade by pinfall. Matt Hardy had the second-biggest face pop of the night, second only to Batista. He hits the Twist of Fate to gain the pinfall on Cade.

Edge, Batista Chavo Guerrero def. Jamie Noble and Funaki by pinfall in a Triple Threat match to retain the WWE Cruiserweight Title. Can someone remind us when the heck did either Noble or Funaki earn a title shot? And why wasn't Jimmy Wang Yang even in the mix? Chavo actually got a few face chants in Texas, and eventually scored the win with a Gory Bomb on Funaki.

Edge is backstage with Vickie Guerrero in Teddy Long's office. Long isn't in the house tonight, and Edge threatens not to participate in the match at all. Vickie assures Edge that the match tonight is non-title, and Edge accepts but is officially under protest.

Deuce & Domino (w/ Cherry) def. Cryme Tyme by pinfall. JTG played the face in peril for most of the match. Shad Gaspar cleans house for a while, until Cherry distracts the ref as Cryme Tyme attempt their neckbreaker combo finisher. Domino low-bridges JTG outside of the ring, allowing Deuce to roll-up Gaspar with a handful of jeans for the win. After the match, Deuce & Domino stayed in the ring to celebrate, but the camera cut backstage to Cryme Tyme discovering the unguarded car that Deuce & Domino drove out to the ring. Cryme Tyme hotwires the car and takes off, as the heels take off in pursuit on foot.

Kane def. MVP by pinfall. MVP takes a chapter out of "How To Win Friends And Influence People" by saying he's a better baller than either Tim Duncan or Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs. Instant over-the-top heel heat. Kane pretty much dominated most of the match with his power. MVP stunned Kane in the corner and went for his running kick, but Kane caught the boot coming in. It also got MVP off balance to where Kane quickly planted the chokeslam to get the win.

Mickie James and Victoria are talking backstage as to who is the better WWE Diva of them. James challenges Victoria to kiss the next man who walks through the door. Howard Finkel comes in, and walks past the ladies, as Victoria states that she wasn't warmed up yet. Next man through the door is Hacksaw Jim Duggan. He walks through the doorway past the ladies, as Victoria complains that Duggan was going too fast to kiss. Victoria then challenges Mickie James to try it herself. The doorway opens to - Oily Fat Guy. Fortunately for Mickie, he is cut off by Ron Simmons who gets through the doorway first and gets a wet kiss from Mickie. Oily Fat Guy does his dance for Simmons, getting the requisite response -- DAMN!

Mickie James def. Victoria by pinfall. Victoria misses a moonsault, allowing Mickie to roll her up for the pin.

Great Khali def. Eugene by pinfall. Chop to the head, choke bomb, pinfall. Thank God we didn't have to watch Khali in the ring for more than 30 seconds.

Batista def. Edge by pinfall. The two biggest pyros in the WWE face off. Decent matchup, but everyone in the building knew the ending before it happened. Batista countered one spear into a spinebuster, the second spear attempt was countered by a well-timed leapfrog to where Edge's head wound up between Batista's legs, setting Edge up for the Batista Bomb, and the victory for Batista.

WWE Spoilers: Smackdown Results, 6-22-07

The following report is courtesy of lordsofpain.net...

The show opens with The Cutting Edge. The topic of discussion - who killed Vince McMahon? Edge mentions it's often the person you least suspect, with him then calling for Torrie Wilson to come out. Edge mentions the past between Vince and Torrie and the recent altercation on Raw a few weeks back with her, Flair, and Vince. As Torrie stands there not sure what to say, MVP appears, wearing a suit, and begins to sympathize with Torrie before calling her a liar. This leads to Ric Flair appearing, who received the pop of the night.

Ric Flair Flair gets in the ring and comes face-to-face with MVP before decking him but is eventually double teamed by MVP and Edge, leading to Batista running out to make the save. And you have the buildup for the night's main event tag team match: Flair & Batista vs. MVP & Edge

Teddy Long is shown backstage speaking with Vickie Guerrero. The audio went out, but it appeared as though he was praising her idea for the night's main event tag team match.

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero Jr. & Jamie Noble defeated Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore at 6:13 when Chavo pinned Moore with a Gory Bomb. Good match. Moore got the hot tag and cleaned house, with Yang eventually hitting a somersault splash to the floor on Noble immediately before the finish. After the match, Yang motioned to Chavo he was coming for the belt.

Mark Henry defeated Sho Funaki via TKO with the bearhug at 2:14

We got a recap of the Vince McMahon car explosion. The first of many recaps throughout the night. This was followed by the WWE 24/7 "Right Now" music video, done just for the live crowd.

Long was again speaking with Vickie backstage in which he mentioned Vince's "death" and said life's too short and he would make an announcement later in the show regarding that. Kristal then appeared and Long said he wanted her to come out to the ring with him.

Matt Hardy pinned Finlay at 17:08 with the Twist of Fate, moments after being hit in the leg with the shillelagh. Really solid match. Finlay worked Hardy's leg the entire time and ripped off his knee brace. It appeared at many times throughout the match that Matt was too hurt to continue, but he hit a surprise Twist of Fate as the referee tried to get Hornswaggle out of the ring. I think the story told here really built Matt up as a singles player.

Long and Kristal come out to the ring and Long talks about how life is precious and too short and he doesn't want to continue his without Kristal. He gets down on his knee and pops the question, but Kristal bursts out crying and after several awkward moments runs backstage. Long, confused, soon follows.

Chris Masters defeated Danny Shanley via submission with the Masterlock at 3:44.

The Sensational Sherri still image was again shown. Apparently, she couldn't get a memorial video package shown on Smackdown, either.

Long is backstage knocking on Kristal's door. She eventually answers and is still crying. After several moments of Long apologizing for asking in front of the audience, Kristal agrees to marry Long and they hug.

The federal investigator updates us on the exploding limo. He won't go into specifics but says the DNA of three people was found inside the car - Vince, his driver, and "one other well known personality." Well that narrows it down...

Batista & Ric Flair defeated World Heavyweight Champion Edge & WWE US Champion MVP at 13:49 when Batista pinned Edge with the sit-down powerbomb after reversing Edge's spear into a spinebuster.
