Sabu Update: Frustration Led to WWE Exit

Sabu was growing increasingly frustrated with his role in WWE, as it upset him to see how the company demeaned and mishandled the ECW name.

Sabu did tell friends in TNA when he left for WWE's new ECW brand last summer that he would probably be back soon as he didn't anticipate ECW lasting very long under the control of Vince McMahon. Sabu was also said to be upset that many within WWE, especially top agents, felt that the ECW Originals didn't deserve the jobs they were given and that they were only around because they were simply ECW Originals.

The perception backstage among many was that Sabu was lucky to have his job and that he was looked at as a second class citizen among the roster. This reportedly ate away at Sabu and once he got the opportunity to participate at WrestleMania 23 and induct his uncle into the WWE Hall of Fame, he felt he had accomplished everything he felt was worth sticking around for.

Sabu: Behind the Release

Sabu has had a long history of behavioral problems backstage in WWE, which lead some observers to believe that he really did not enjoy working for the company. Prior to his firing yesterday, he had in fact failed a wellness test; rather than being suspended, he was punished by having to wrestle without pay and only put other people over.

There was also an incident at the airport en route to the ECW tapings where Sabu was detained by airport security after they checked his luggage. He was not very happy about them searching his luggage and caused a big scene at the airport, which delayed his arrival to the tapings by several hours.

When he finally arrived at the ECW tapings he was instructed that he would go out and put over Kevin Thorne. Sabu claimed he couldn’t do it due to a neck injury that had been bothering him over the weekend. This was the last straw for WWE and it made the decision to release him right there.

When friends of his asked him why he was behaving like this and acting like he wanted to be fired, Sabu pretty much said he didn’t want to be with the company anymore and had been unhappy for a while.

Sabu Released from WWE

After weeks of rumors and speculation, Sabu has been released from his WWE contract.

Sabu was sent home from the Smackdown/ECW tapings after he arrived to the tapings several hours late and didn’t even bring his ring gear with him.

According to one source, the plan for last night's ECW show was for Sabu to put over Kevin Thorn. Sabu balked at the idea, claiming he had a bad neck injury.

WWE Rumors: Sabu on Way Out?

Sabu According to PWinsider.com, the feeling backstage is that Sabu is lucky to have a job with WWE right now after several incidents that left management furious.

Sabu was initially punished by being squashed by Umaga on TV. He had shown up late to several shows and actually fell asleep backstage in the pre-production area.

Then, after the ECW tapings last week he was supposed to film some promotional stuff for the December To Dismember PPV, but he blew it off. Apparently, he was out of the building long before the end of the show.

Right now, unless he can turn things around, all indications point to Sabu being released by WWE some time in the near future.
