Johnny Nitro Interview: On WWE Career
Johnny Nitro was interviewed by the Detroit Press today. Here's an excerpt:
Just as we were about to start speaking with WWE star Johnny Nitro last month in Bakersfield, Calif., he reached for his sunglasses case.
"It's not the same without the sunglasses," he explained, wrapping his designer shades around his eyes. "It adds to the effect."
Indeed. He went on to give us a unique glimpse into both John Hennigan, the boy from L.A. who always dreamed of becoming a professional wrestler, and Johnny Nitro, the over-the-top, paparazzi-baiting character he portrays on television.
When did you know you were going to become a pro wrestler? Growing up, there's a time in every kid's life when he sees professional wrestling and thinks, "Man, that's what I want to do when I grow up,"and I guess I never grew up. This is what I love to do, this is what I have passion for. It's just a dream that you have when you're a kid, and if you don't let go of your dreams and you follow them, great stuff usually happens.
What are your hobbies outside of the ring? I like to make kung fu movies. I've got a bunch of 10-15-minute short kung fu movies that I usually either star in or play, like, the evil genius bad guy. "The Foot of Death" is one of them, "Kung Food," and on and on and on. I like to do that. Other hobbies? When I'm in Los Angeles -- I grew up out here -- I like to surf, I did that since I was a kid. Snowboarding, I don't get to go as much anymore, but I used to be big into snowboarding. Skating, all different kinds of stuff like that. Then of course, bodybuilding, weightlifting and breakdancing.
