Paul Heyman Praises Edge

It would be an understatement to say that Paul Heyman is a fan of Edge.

The former owner of ECW is a major, major fan of Edge.

Just take a look at some of what Heyman had to say about the WWE's best heel in a recent column for Great Britan's The Sun:

"A phenomenal worker with rock star looks, Copeland knows how to present the "Edge" character so no one has the inclination to cheer him.

His charisma alone could carry an entire show - and, bluntly, he's had Smackdown on his shoulders for longer than most people realize - but Copeland's portrayal of the scheming, manipulative, opportunistic Edge is played in such a way that you simply want to see him get beat or perhaps more importantly, beat up."

We agree with Paul Heyman: Edge is the best heel in the business.

Regarding his promo on last week's WWE RAW, Heyman said the following about Edge:

"Edge's range was amazing, too. From the frothing-at-the-mouth-anticipation of JR screaming "Edge wins! Edge wins! Edge wins!" to the envisioned-orgasm as he described "the love of my life" - dramatic pause, then emphasis - "Vickie Guerrero," Edge's promo was, as they say, one for the ages.

He had such heel heat by the time he punked out everyone from Ross to Undertaker to the Raw program itself, people were salivating at the mere thought that someone, somehow, someday would just smash this bastard.

Batista came out and delivered a ferocious beating to Edge, and the live audience came unglued."

An Interview with Edge

Smackdown superstar and former WWE champion Edge spoke with The Daily Gleaner recently. Here's an excerpt of the interview:

You're usually in the headlining match these days. What does it feel like walking out to the ring for the main event?
It's great because I feel completely confident in going out there last ... It feels really good to know that however many thousand people that are there (have) paid good money to boo you. They want to see you get beat tonight.

That's the case about 99 per cent of the time, but we'll have to see at these shows. It always seems like Canada is one big hometown for me. Whether it's Fredericton or whether it's Victoria, they like to take me on as their own.

An Edge Photo Montage

You don't know him.

Okay, maybe you do know Edge. And maybe you do love him as much as the staff of The Wrestling Post. We think Edge combines mic skills with in-ring ability as well as anyone currently in the WWE.

Here's a photo tribute to the superstar:

Edge Injury Update: Almost Career-Threatening

Triple H may be returning at SummerSlam, but another superstar will be out of the ring for awhile.

WWE.com has an article up about Edge's successful surgery on his torn left pectoral muscle this past weekend in Birminham, AL with Dr. James Andrews.

The article also noted that the injury turned out to be much more serious than previously thought, with Dr. Andrews discovering that Edge had a quote "complete tear of the tendon attaching to the muscle – right off the bone."

"I didn’t think that the tear would be as significant as what we found when we went in. Initially, we had thought it was a partial tear, but it turned out to be much more significant – the injury could have been career-threatening if not properly repaired," said Dr. Andrews.

Edge is expected to spend the first four weeks after surgery healing and then an extra three to four months of full recovery.

Edge to Miss Four Months

This sucks:

Edge tore his left pectoral muscle last Tuesday at the SmackDown tapings during a segment with Kane. The injury will require surgery, thus resulting in Edge vacating the World Heavyweight title on SmackDown this week. Expected recovery time is at least four months, which would put him out until at least November.

Edge commented on Smackdown on the list of injuries he has received: "I’ve broken my neck, dislocated my shoulder twice, torn my other pec, my elbows are mush, I have two protruding discs in my lower back. I even got bit by a brown recluse spider that turned into a flesh-eating disease – the list goes on."

We hope one of our favorite WWE stars gets better soon.

WWE Spoiler: Edge Injured, Likely to Drop Title

Due to an injury Edge suffered during the Mardi Gras angle on last week's SmackDown, the champion will be forced to miss ring time.

Edge has apparently not yet decided whether he is going to pursue surgery or try to heal the torn pectoral in rehab, but either course of action will result in time away from the ring.

Consequently, he is expected to drop his WWE World Heavyweight Championship at tonight's WWE SmackDown! taping.

The plan is for a new champion to be crowned via a Battle Royal on tonight's show; the winner will make his first defense at the Great American Bash.

In an interview with SkySports last week, Edge said he would have liked to have been the leader of a stable.

The WWE World champion stated he would have liked to have both Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch under him, but with the switch to SmackDown, this won’t be able to happen anytime soon.

Edge Makes NHL Hockey Predictions

Toronto native and WWE superstar Edge recently took time away from body-slamming and pile-driving to give TheHockeyNews.com his exclusive picks for the first round…

Canucks vs. Stars: The Edge goes to the Canucks
“Luongo was a huge pickup for the Canucks and he will be the difference maker in the series. I have to vouch for every Canadian team in the NHL playoffs because there are just so few teams representing Canada.”

Sabres vs. Islanders: The Edge goes to the Sabres
“The Sabres may go all the way this year. They have the most depth of any team in the playoffs.”

Thrashers vs. Rangers: The Edge goes to Thrashers
“I have a soft spot for the Thrashers. I like to see new NHL franchises make hay in the playoffs. The Thrashers are stacked with so many solid snipers that they will take out the Rangers. As a diehard Devils fans – there is nothing I like better than the Rangers exiting the playoffs early. I like Brendan Shanahan, but that is about it.”

Senators vs. Penguins: The Edge goes to Penguins
“This is the toughest series to pick. Dany Heatley got his 50th goal of the year on the last game of the season, which was amazing, but Ottawa has a tendency to choke in the playoffs. The Penguins are a grinding team and I don’t think the Senators can take the package of Crosby, Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury.”

Predators vs. Sharks: The Edge goes to Sharks
“The Sharks put out the Predators in last year’s playoff and will do so again this year. Thornton and Cheechoo can rally the team, but it will be San Jose’s goaltending that will be the key to the series.”

Ducks vs. Wild: The Edge goes to Ducks
“The Wild could be the dark horse in these NHL playoffs, but the Ducks have the best defensive core in the NHL with Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger. Throw in Teemu Selanne and I can see the Ducks in the Western Conference final.”

Red Wings vs. Flames: The Edge goes to the Flames
“The Flames are my surprise team of 2007 and I foresee them taking out the Red Wings. I am going against the grain and going with Canada and the Flames. They have great heart and great goaltending and that is what you need in the playoffs.”

Devils vs. Lightning: The Edge goes to the Devils
"I like the Lightning because I own a home in Tampa, but I can’t go against Marty and my team. Martin Brodeur is an ironman and as I said before, goaltending is the key to the playoffs. Marty carries the Devils and they have a strong line of Elias, Brylin and Madden. From top to bottom they are a strong team and very similar to Buffalo. I just think they are the strongest team and it just so happens they are my personal favorite team. I am not just hopping on the bandwagon; I was rooting for the Devils during the lean years. I just feel that this

Edge Responds to Steroids Story

You've heard from Kurt Angle in a response to the allegations he abused steroids.

Now, courtesy of his MySpace account, here is Edge's blog on the topic:

If you are reading this blog and it sees the light of day, than that means that an article has been written by a Sports Illustrated writer that states I received HGH from a pharmacy in 2003. So, I'll cut right to the chase like I always do. It's true. However, it's not exactly breaking, earth shattering news. It's actually old news. I admitted to this on national television in Canada in 2004 on Off The Record. When host Michael Lansberg asked me if I'd ever taken steroids, without consulting me before the show, I was perturbed, but answered without hesitation, "Yes, I have."

In hindsight, I'm glad he asked the question. It got it out in the open and anyone who follows my career or supports me already knows this information about me. I won't try to defend my actions. I took them when coming back from my spinal fusion neck surgery when I was told by doctors that it would help the bones grow back around the screws and plate that were now inserted in my neck. I'm not glorifying. I'm not condoning. Just telling you why I decided to take them. I took blood tests, consulted doctors, read up, studied them, got prescriptions, and decided to do it.

That's pretty much it folks, but I wanted you to get my response straight from me and not through the words of another write. Now as I'm sure most you can tell, I don't take steroids and haven't in a very long time, long before the WWE drug testing wellness policy was implemented. Hell, I barely see the inside of a gym anymore, let alone take performance enhancing substances!

Until next time, from everybody's favorite, clean urine,
Edgemiester!
