WWE Results: Armageddon, 12-16-07

A new world champion was crowned at Armageddon last night. Let's get to the results...

- Rey Mysterio defeated MVP via countout; MVP retains the WWE United States Championship. Early in the match, Rey Mysterio took out MVP with a dive over the top rope right over the top of the referee to the floor. MVP countered a huracanrana attempt and sent Mysterio into the turnbuckle. Mysterio finally takes out MVP with a huracanrana, but MVP quickly responds with a quick kick to the face. The finish saw Mysterio hit another huracanrana on MVP on the floor. MVP then walked off and took the countout finish. Mysterio gets the win, but MVP retains the United States Title.

- Big Daddy V & Mark Henry defeated ECW Champion CM Punk & Kane. Early in the match, Big Daddy V and Henry exchanged tags and worked on Punk in the corner. Kane eventually got the hot tag and took out both Henry and Big Daddy V. The finish saw Punk hit a springboard off the ropes, Big Daddy V caught him on his shoulders and then hit a big samoan drop to get the pinfall.

- Vickie Guerrero is ready to throw Edge a victory party tonight after his World Title Match against Batista and The Undertaker.

- Shawn Michaels defeated Mr. Kennedy. Very good match between these two. Before the match, Mr. Kennedy got on the mic and said it didn't matter if he liked, hated or respected HBK, the only thing that matters is if he beats him and promised it would happen tonight. Kennedy was very aggressive with HBK early on in the match with a series of offense. HBK then took out Kennedy, chop blocking him and then going to work on his arm. Kennedy speared HBK to the outside. HBK responded by stomping on Kennedy's hand over the steel steps. Back in the ring, Kennedy sent HBK into the corner.

The finish saw Kennedy attempt an STO, but Michaels got to the ropes. Kennedy attempted a DDT, HBK countered, Kennedy with a big left, Kennedy holds his hand in pain and then HBK connects with Sweet Chin Music to get the pinfall.

- A promo for the Royal Rumble on January 27 airs.

picture-1.jpg - WWE Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy defeated Triple H in a #1 Contender Match to earn a shot at the WWE Title at the Royal Rumble. The story early on in the match was that Jeff Hardy held back hitting Triple H and Triple H yelled at him to bring it. Hardy eventually slapped Triple H across the face and Triple H smiled. The action spilled to the outside where Triple H sent Hardy into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Hardy takes out Triple H with a crossbody and a Whisper in the Wind for two close two counts. Twist of Fate attempt by Hardy, but Triple H counters and hits a quick DDT. Hardy with a Swanton Bomb attempt, but Triple H moves, Hardy hits the ring, Triple H covers, but only gets a two count. The finish saw Triple H go for the Pedigree, but Hardy counters into cradle pin for the win.

- Finlay defeated The Great Khali. Khali had a nerve hold on Finlay when Hornswoggle interfered. Khali threw Hornswoggle off the ring apron and then started to remove the top turnbuckle. With the referee distracted, Hornswoggle low blowed Khali with a shillelagh and then Finlay hit Khali with the shillelagh to get the pinfall.

- Chris Jericho defeated Randy Orton via DQ; Orton retains the WWE Championship. Lots of quick aggressive offense by Jericho early on in the match on Orton. Orton finally got back in it with a big DDT on Jericho followed by a big dropkick. Both were knocked out when they hit each other near the corner. Both were up by the eight count of the referee. Some more back and forth action between the two with Jericho hitting Orton with an uppercut and Orton taking out Jericho with a clothesline. Jericho countered an RKO attempt into a quick backslide for a two count. Jericho went for the Lionsault, but Orton got his knees up, attempted the RKO, Jericho shoved him away and then finally connected with the Lionsault.

They brawled to the outside and Orton threw Jericho on the Smackdown announce table right into JBL. Jericho shoved JBL away when he got off the table as the action spilled back into the ring. Orton countered a Codebreaker attempt by Jericho into a powerbomb in the corner. The finish saw Jericho get the Walls of Jericho applied. He pulled Orton to the center of the ring when JBL got in and kicked Jericho in the face causing the DQ finish. Orton retains his title. After the match, JBL yelled at Jericho and then Orton hit him with an RKO.

Armageddon, WWE Spoiler: Randy Orton to Retain

WWE taped the annual "Tribute of the Troops" show from Iraq last week.

During the show, Randy Orton defends the WWE title against Chris Jericho in the opening match. Because the "Tribute to the Troops" airs next Monday night it's a good sign that Orton will retain the WWE title tonight.

As reported previously, WWE plans to feud Jericho with JBL in the coming months.


Current Card for WWE Armageddon

Following the result of last night's WWE RAW, the following matches have been confirmed for the December 16th WWE Armageddon PPV:

- WWE Championship Match: Randy Orton (c) vs. Chris Jericho

- Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H

- Shawn Michaels vs. Ken Kennedy

- Finlay vs. The Great Khali

- WWE Women's Championship Match: Beth Phoenix (c) vs. Mickie James


WWE Spoilers: Armageddon Matches Planned

PWInsider.com reports that Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton and Batista vs. Edge vs. The Undertaker are tentatively scheduled to main-event the upcoming Armageddon pay-per-view.

At press time, sources also believed a third Armageddon match would involve Jeff Hardy vs. Snitsky in some capacity.

Another possible scenario would be a tag match featuring Triple H and Umaga and the aforementioned superstars. We'll keep you posted as details become available.

WWE RAW and Smackdown Champs Team Up: Armageddon Results, 12-17-06

- Kane defeated MVP in an Inferno Match. When Kane made his entrance and got into the ring to do his arms up/arms down pose, the fire around the ring shot up instead of pyro in the four corners. Lots of back and forth action between the two during the match, with the flames shooting up each time they hit a move. At one point, MVP tried to escape the ring, but the flames shot up and prevented him from doing so. Later in the match, Kane got one of the turnbuckle covers and lit it on fire. Kane tried to put it in MVP's face, but MVP gave Kane a low blow and through the turnbuckle that was on fire out of the ring. MVP then went up to the top rope, but Kane pushed him off and MVP hit the announce table with force. Kane then followed that up by getting up on the top rope, jumping over the flames and taking out MVP on the outside. The finish then saw MVP try to crawl under the ring, but Kane pulled him back out, lifted him up and pushed him into the fire around the ring. MVP's suit caught fire and he ran around until officials came out and put him out with a fire extinguisher.

- Backstage, we see WWE Divas Ashley, Jillian Hall, Kristal Marshall and Layla around a Christmas tree. Smackdown GM Teddy Long came in and told all the Divas that they would be taking part in a Naughty or Nice Lingerie Match tonight.

- Smackdown GM Teddy Long came out and announced the scheduled WWE Tag Team Title Match between Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs. William Regal & Dave Taylor will now be a Ladder Match. Long isn't done yet. The Hardys and MNM have also been added to the match.

- Paul London & Brian Kendrick retained the WWE Tag Team Titles in a Four Way Ladder Match against The Hardys, MNM and William Regal & Dave Taylor. The match first kicked off with London & Kendrick and The Hardys throwing Regal & Taylor and MNM out of the ring so the two teams could start off the match. One spot saw London climb up the ladder and Nitro tried to dropkick him off, but London moved. Mercury attempted a jump up another ladder, but Matt Hardy pushed that over and Mercury crashed on the outside. Another spot saw The Hardys attempt a Poetry in Motion on London, but London moved and Jeff Hardy crashed into a ladder. London then put Matt Hardy on a ladder and Kendrick jumped off the top rope hitting a foot stomp on Matt over the ladder. Another scary spot saw MNM setup a catapult with two ladders and then try to superplex Jeff Hardy on it.

Jeff countered the superplex and jumped off the top of the ladders, allowing both ladders to hit MNM in the face. Joey Mercury got busted open badly from this shot and looks to have broken his nose. Mercury is removed from the match and Michael Cole adds later that he has been rushed to the hospital. Nitro then got up on the ladder and reached for the tag titles, but Jeff came up and took out Nitro with a big sunset flip powerbomb. The finish then saw London and Matt Hardy climb up a ladder at the same time, London knocked Matt off and grabbed the WWE Tag Team Titles to win the match.

- The Boogeyman defeated The Miz. Not much of a match at all. The Miz started the match by going outside the ring and stalling. Miz tried pulling Boogeyman outside with him, but Boogeyman pulled him back in. The finish saw Miz jump off the top rope, but Boogeyman caught him around the throat and hit a big sitdown powerbomb to get the pinfall. After the match, Boogeyman pulls out worms and puts them in Miz's mouth.- Backstage, we see Jillian Hall and Layla El helping each other change into lingerie for the Naughty or Nice Lingerie Match later tonight.

- Backstage, Chavo Guerrero said he would dedicate his match with Chris Benoit tonight to Vickie Guerrero for the WWE U.S. Title. Vickie promised that Benoit would lose the U.S. Title tonight.

- Chris Benoit defeated Chavo Guerrero w/ Vickie Guerrero to retain the WWE United States Title. Solid match between the two. Chavo went after Benoit before the bell even rang. Benoit came back with some offense on his own. At one point during the match, Benoit attempted a Sharpshooter, but Chavo poked Benoit in the eyes to break it up. Chavo comes back with a big superplex on Benoit from the top rope. Benoit then counters a suplex attempt by Chavo into a Crossface, but Chavo breaks it up when he gets to the ropes. Chavo attempted the Three Amigos, but Benoit counters and gives Chavo eight german suplexes in a row!

The finish then saw Benoit lock in the Sharpshooter on Chavo, but Vickie Guerrero came into the ring with the U.S. Title. Benoit grabs Vickie and goes to put her in the Sharpshooter, but Chavo rolls up Benoit. Benoit counters that roll up back into the Sharpshooter and Chavo taps out to allow Benoit to retain his title.

- Gregory Helms defeated Jimmy Wang Yang to retain the WWE Cruiserweight Title. Lots of back and forth action between Helms and Yang. Some of the action spilled to the outside and Helms hit Yang with a quick swinging neckbreaker. Another spot saw Helms jump off the top rope, but Yang caught him with a big kick to the face. The finish saw Yang attempt the Yang Time, but Helms countered and attempted a sky twister, but it missed and Helms instead hit Yang's face off his knee for the pinfall. Helms busted his mouth during the match. JBL was all over the fans in Richmond for not appreciating the match.

Armageddon Spoilers: Main Event Revealed

We reported yesterday that the main event for Armageddon would be Batista and a mystery partner against King Booker and Finlay.

That mystery partner has now been revealed as ... John Cena.

Really, WWE? Come on. This is a SMACKDOWN event. Why must you throw in a RAW superstar? The Smackdown brand will never grow as long as you treat it in such a second class fashion.

Armageddon Spoilers: Three Matches Announced

Three matches are planned for December 17th’s WWE SmackDown Armageddon pay-per-view.

  1. The Undertaker will take on Ken Kennedy in a Last Ride match
  2. MVP will face on Kane in an Inferno match
  3. World Heavyweight Champion Batista & partner of his choosing vs. King Booker & Finlay
