WWE Spoilers: Smackdown Results, 7-4-08

WWE Smackdown rings in the Fourth of July tomorrow night with the following results...

- MVP's guest in the VIP Lounge was Triple H. After some back and forth banter between the two, footage is shown of Edge losing the World Heavyweight Title on Raw. Triple H brings up that Edge still has one thing going for him in that he is marrying a woman of power and how that is always a great move (get it?!?).

Vickie Guerrero comes out and announces Triple H vs. Edge for the WWE Title at the Great American Bash. Triple H makes more wedding jokes with Vickie and tells her they could always do the ceremony in Las Vegas.

- Michelle McCool won a star on a pole match to become the other #1 contender for the new Smackdown WWE Divas title.

- Jesse & Festus (with Festus dressed as Uncle Sam) defeated Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder. After the match, Edge came out and took out Festus with a steel chair.

- Jeff Hardy defeated WWE Tag Team Champion John Morrison.

- Umaga defeated Funaki.

- Matt Hardy defeated Mr. Kennedy, Chavo Guerrero and Carlito in a fatal four way to retain the WWE United States Title.

- Edge comes out to the ring and gets on the mic, saying he was going to reveal some of Vickie's "dark secrets." Vickie walked out and started yelling at Edge. Edge then called the wedding off. Vickie started to cry and threw her wedding ring down. Is anyone else beyond sick of wedding angles?

- (This may or may not air) Triple H and The Big Show defeated Edge and ECW Champion Mark Henry. Triple H got the pinfall on Henry when Edge left the ring.

ECW Rating Rises

ECW on Sci Fi drew a final 1.4 cable rating this week. The figure is a big increase from last week's 1.2 rating and one of the larger ratings the show has received since late March.

There's no way this can be due to an interest in Mark Henry as champion... can it?!?

Raw House Show Ads Highlight Possible WWE Spoilers, New Feuds

With all the moving and shaking that have followed the latest brand draft, the official website of Madison Square Garden has updated its card for the WWE Raw brand house show on Saturday, August 23.

In what could be a feud to come, CM Punk will be defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Batista in the main event.

Also, could a Kane heel turn be in the works? The Big Red Machine will be challenging Kofi Kingston for the Intercontinental Championship at the event.

Cards are always subject to change, but matches such as this are worth noting.

WWE Rumors: Jeff Hardy's Next Feud

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, a new feud on Smackdown may feature Shelton Benjamin against Jeff Hardy.

While this would match up two of the WWE's best in-ring workers, it would also feature two of the company's worst on the mic against one another.

Do you think a Shelton Benjamin versus Jeff Hardy feud would work?

Awful WWE Diva News: Ashley Massaro Asks for Release

Ashley Massaro posted a blog early this morning on her official MySpace page. Due to an illness in the family - Ashley's seven-year old daughter is sick - one of our favorite WWE Divas asked for her release.

Here's the blog entry:

some unfortunate news...this is the hardest decision i have ever had to make...

I have some thing to tell you guys and I wanted u 2 be the first 2 hear it...I tried very hard out of the respect I have for her privacy and not wanting her 2 be exposed in any negative light but I have a 7yr old daughter and I just found out 2day that she not well and I can't be on the road with WWE when my own flesh and blood needs me...

Love for Her Fans

We wish Ashley Massaro and her daughter nothing but the best.

I am a single parent trying 2 juggle taking care of my child and working my butt off for her and now at this point when she is sick and needs me home I have 2 make the decision 2 bow out of wwe for a while and take care of my daughter...I wish I could do both and that there were more ways 2 get everything done but with the severity of the situation I'm going 2 have 2 ask for an early release for now...

I may be back if she gets better...please keep her in your prayers...I love the wwe...I love all the talent that works there and most of all I love all the fans...thanks for always being so supportive...so this is me taking a bow and stepping out of the lime light right now to take care of my family

Jim Ross Blogs About WWE Raw Speech

Jim Ross has updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com to include comments on his farewell speech this week on WWE Raw.

Here's what he had to say:

Being able to address the crowd in OKC was a nice opportunity that is greatly appreciated on my end... I had a challenging time getting through the in ring promo as a million thoughts were running through my mind about my years on Raw, especially my OKC experiences, beginning my career in my home state, etc.

I did not 'write' anything down to say nor did any one else if you are keeping score at home or simply just need to know that info. From what I understand neither did Edge.

A Kofi Kingston Controversy

This is a little strange: The BBC has posted an article on Kofi Kingston that questions his heritage.

As WWE officials like to publicize, Kingston is the first-ever superstar to hail from Jamaica... or is he?

His mother Elizabeth - the head of a Ghanaian-American organization in the U.S. - said that her son was bornn Ghana. The family moved to America in 1982.

Kofi Kingston

"I told him: 'Kofi, your cousins watch you on TV in Ghana and want to know why you don't say you're from Ghana,'" she said.

Kofi's response? "Tell them it is business."

It is business. And if this story is true...who cares? Don't superstars often change their persona and background in order to fit a character?

We hate to break it to the BBC, but Kane wasn't really burned alive as a child, either.

The Official ECW Previews: 7-1-08

With WWE obviously intent on shaking things up - yes, CM Punk really is the new champion on Raw - what will ECW have in store for us tonight? Courtesy of WWE.com, here's the official preview...

It was an incredible Night of Champions for the World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry, who overcame the onslaught of the Big Red Machine Kane and the World’s Largest Athlete Big Show in a Triple Threat Match to bring the ECW Championship back to the Land of the Extreme.

Kane showed tremendous fortitude as he fought through an injury during the match, suplexing the gigantic Big Show off the top rope. But, while both men were feeling the effects of the devastating move, Henry splashed his way in, picking up both the win and the gold.

With Big Show still a SmackDown Superstar and Kane drafted over to Monday Night Raw, who will dare challenge the gigantic new ECW champion?

Newly-drafted United States Champion Matt Hardy made an extremely strong statement by defeating the self-proclaimed “Mexican Warrior” Chavo Guerrero.

After Guerrero grabbed the No. 1 contender’s spot thanks to his aunt, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero, Hardy stopped him in his tracks, hitting the Twist of Fate. Will Guerrero come back for more? Or, will Matt Hardy find new prey on Tuesday nights?

WWE Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison retained their titles in a whirlwind match against the father-son duo of Finlay and Hornswoggle, which ended with Morrison hurling Hornswoggle from the top rope to pick up the win. Will the brawler from Belfast and his son s
