WWE Spoilers: Smackdown Results, 1-25-08

The Smackdown airing tomorrow night is the final show before the Royal Rumble. Let's look over the results of the taping...

6249330.jpeg Handicap Match: Rey defeated The Edgeheads by DQ
The ref called for the DQ as Rey was about to deliver the 619 to one of the Edgeheads (can anyone tell them apart?) and the other came in with a chair. After the match, Rey used a springboard dropkick to kick the chair back into his face. The crowd was dying for a 619.

Jimmy Wang Yang defeated Domino by pinfall
Deuce interferes and so does Shannon Moore. Yang, who had decent crowd support, wins with the moonsault.

Chuck Palumbo/Jaime Noble/Michelle McCool vs. Miz/John Morrison/Layla
This match didn't last long, but the segment did. They did the spot where Palumbo pushes Noble into Michelle McCool by accident and knocks her off the ring apron. Very odd segment after that. They call for the stretcher, and the whole time Michelle is being loaded on, Palumbo attacks Noble. This beat down takes a while and so does putting Michelle on the stretcher. Michelle gets up to stop Palumbo, but he throws her down and proceeds to kick Noble in the ribs. All the while, the ECW trio were just standing there watching awkwardly. This was a VERY LONG segment, and it's hard to imagine it all airs tomorrow night.

MVP's cuts a promo on Ric Flair with edited pictures of Flair playing golf and shuttle board. Flair makes a surprise appearance and the crowd goes nuts. Hilarious promo from MVP.

Belfast Brawl: Finlay vs. The Great Khali
This ends in a No Contest. The finish comes when Khali grabs Hornswoggle from the outside and is looking to put him through a table. Finlay just destroys Khali and walks away.

The Undertaker defeats Big Daddy V
Quick match. The Undertaker hits all of his spots. He wins by Triangle Choke after BDV had kicked out of the chokeslam.

Edge defeats CM Punk
CM Punk botched his outside to inside springboard lariat. He slipped and just landed in the ring. A nice spot shows Edge reversing a Punk springboard into a powerslam. Punk's kicks look brutal live. Edge gets the win with a spear out of nowhere.

Jim Ross Blogs About Jeffy Hardy Push

Jeffy Hardy PhotoAs Jeffy Hardy gets ready for his title shot against Randy Orton at the Royal Rumble this Sunday, Jim Ross has written about the high-flyer's push in his latest blog entry:

Jeff Hardy reminds me of only a few wrestlers who simply got white hot in a matter of weeks and is seemingly only a few steps away from establishing residency in the Promised Land.

The question always is for any athlete is that once one gets there, how long can one stay on hallowed ground?

For the naysayers who are adamant that Hardy will not win Sunday at MSG, I simply say stay tuned as we are in unpredictable waters and Jeff Hardy winning the WWE Title in Madison Square Garden would be one of those lasting “moments” that would live for years.

Hardy may be the underdog Sunday, but so were the NY Giants last Sunday in Green Bay. Just throwing it out there.

Bobby Lashley: Gone from WWE

As Brock Lesnar trains for the UFC, another former WWE champion is leaving WWE for another fighting industry.

In a phone call placed this afternoon to internet wrestling journalist Ryan Gray of WrestlingNewsWorld.com, Bobby Lashley confirmed that he is gone from the company.

Lashley told Gray that he was training hard for a potential career in Mixed Martial Arts. The former ECW Champion said that despite the fact that he wanted to pursue an MMA career, it would NOT be with UFC.

Would Lashley be interested in going to TNA Wrestling? He failed to say. But he did add that WWE has granted his release, but it would not be officially announced until the paperwork was finalized.

More from John Cena: Not Appearing at Wrestlemania 24

John Cena recently spoke with the UK's The Sun about possibly appearing at Wrestlemania 24. It doesn't sound like he'll be there:

“I most likely will be at WrestleMania in some capacity, but you probably won't see me on camera," Cena said.

The good news for Cena fans is he will almost certainly return to action as soon as shooting his new movie is complete. The bad news?

“The movie will take up the bulk of my time through to US Memorial Day, which is at the end of May," Cena said.

Regarding that film, the former WWE champion said: “I'm actually moving to New Orleans in one week and spending some time with the police there, to learn how to be a better cop as that's what the film is about."

Brock Lesnar, UFC Featured by Yahoo

Brock Lesnar made a name for himself in college wrestling, then inside a WWE ring and then in an attempt to play in the NFL.

Now, the former WWE star is trying to make it in the UFC. Yahoo recently profiled the endeavor and athlete:

Brock Lesnar Picture In the spring of 2000, Brock Lesnar was a University of Minnesota senior, just two weeks and a handful of workouts away from the NCAA Division I wrestling tournament.

Today, the 30-year-old Lesnar finds himself in a similar situation as he trains for his match against former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion Frank Mir in the most publicized debut in UFC history.

The former “Next Big Thing” of pro wrestling has become ultimate fighting's next gigantic question mark, a 1-0 fighter with 69 seconds of ring experience thrown into the deep end of a shark-infested pool.

Whether he's in over his head remains to be seen, but the reason he's being billed as the semi-main event of UFC 81 on Feb. 2 in Las Vegas is because of his fame as a former World Wrestling Entertainment champion.

The success of this card hinges on people buying the novelty of a former WWE champion fighting a former UFC champion. The idea, if it clicks, is to rally the UFC fan base to want to see the fake wrestler get smashed, and for the pro wrestling audience, to whom the show is being heavily marketed, to tune in out of curiosity to see how one of its all-time tough guys can do.

John Cena Commens on Injury, Return

John Cena appeared on SkyTV's Sky Sports News this morning to discuss his upcoming return to a WWE ring.

Regarding his pectoral injury, Cena said:

"I'm happy and healthy. Its just the doctor in the company is conservative. I'm also involved in a cinema project. I'm filming a new movie in two weeks which is going to last for around five months."

When asked when he'll return to the ring, Cena responded:

"I don't want to say 'never say never' but it looks to be about the six to twelve months that they thought, so we'll see."
