Recap of Vince McMahon on The Today Show

Vince McMahon appeared on NBC’s Today Show this morning.

Host Meredith Viera questioned WWE’s press release from Tuesday, asking Vince how he could be so sure in stating that steroids could not have been to blame when results of toxicology tests won’t be known for several weeks yet. McMahon answered by trying to explain that the statement was aimed at saying “roid rage” couldn’t have been to blame, going on to say the statement that WWE released was a reaction to media hysteria on Tuesday.

McMahon referred to Chris Benoit as “a monster," saying this was "an act of deliberation" and not something brought on my uncontrolled, immediate anger.

Vince spoke about how WWE is all about “putting smiles on people’s faces.“

When WWE’s Wellness Policy was brought up, he replied: “Last February (2006), we instituted a wellness policy to police for steroids or abuse of prescription drugs. We do urine and blood tests and things of that nature to determine…as well as test the cardio aspect of things to test for heart disease and heart failure…The last test he took of a random nature was in April and it was totally negative. That doesn’t mean he was not taking prescription medication or steroids when this happened. We don’t know.”

McMahon went on to talk of how people in his company are “well-adjusted, family people,“ adding that “we won’t know until we get the toxicology reports back. Once we get those back, we’re dealing in real facts. There was no way to tell this man was a monster. He was a mild-mannered individual.”
