Finlay Makes a New Enemy: Smackdown Results, 9-8-06

Match 1: Finlay vs. Rey Mysterio

- Finlay talked trash to Mysterio, then hit a headlock takedown. Mysterio countered into a headscissors. Finlay rolled around and managed to escape, moving into a headlock. He hit a nice uppercut and talked more trash to Mysterio, asking him if something's wrong. Finlay put Mysterio up on his shoulders, then hung him up on the top rope. A loud Finlay sucks chant came from the crowd. Mysterio blocked a punched and fired back with a few shots, but Finlay regained control with a knee to the midsection before whipping him into the turnbuckle hard. Finlay covered, but Mysterio got his foot on the bottom rope. Finlay hit a nice tilt-a-whirl slam and covered, but Mysterio kicked out at two before bailing to the outside to try to get refocused.

Finlay over Rey

Finlay swung on the ropes to kick Mysterio on the outside. Finlay held up his arms in victory in the ring. Mysterio finally got back in the ring. Finlay drove him into the corner twice. Mysterio collapsed. Finlay hit his seated senton drop to the back twice. Finlay went for the Boston crab and locked it in. Mysterio tried escaping by kicking Finlay in the head, but Finlay turned and adjusted the submission into something different. Finlay continued to hold onto one leg, but Mysterio managed to reach the bottom rope. Finlay went after Mysterio in the corner, but Mysterio moved and Finlay went shoulder first into the turnbuckle. Mysterio hit leg kicks. Finlay tried to hit a sunset flip, but Mysterio rolled through and kicked Finlay in the side of the head! He hooked the leg, but Finlay kicked out at two.

Mysterio went out to the apron and hit the springboard seated senton! He hooked the leg, but Finlay kicked out. Finlay went for a slam, but Mysterio slid out and hit the drop toehold to set up the 619. Finlay stood up, but Mysterio ducked a clothesline. He went for a springboard move to follow up, but it looked like he screwed it up by missing the ropes when he jumped toward them and bounced off. Finlay went to follow up and hit the celtic cross finisher, covering and picking up the win.

JBL got in the ring and said he had an obligation to all these Smackdown fans who Rey just disappointed after he embarrassed himself once again. He asked if the reason Rey's wrestling had become such a disgrace was because the woman he thought loved him slapped the taste out of his mouth, that being Vickie Guerrero. Rey pushed the mic aside. JBL said that they've got to know and that the Smackdown fans deserve that. He asked if the reason he's not himself could be because the entire Guerrero family has deemed Rey a piece of trash. He held the mic out for the answer, but Rey just looked sad and upset and turned away. Rey started leaving the ring and practically collapsed down to the floor as he lowered himself to leave. Mysterio paused as he walked up the ramp and looked ready to cry before continuing.

Match 2: United States Champion Ken Kennedy vs. Danny Giamondo

- Kennedy went for a go behind and took down Giamondo. Cole pointed out on commentary that what Kennedy said about Giamondo was, in fact, not true. Kennedy hit a running elbow drop, followed by a back suplex. Kennedy delivered a running leg to Kennedy in the ropes, then sent him off the ropes and beat down Giamondo in the corner. Kennedy hit a running facewash to Giamondo in the corner. Kennedy covered, but Giamondo kicked out. Kennedy put on a vise on Giamondo's head. Giamondo made a brief comeback and hit some headbutts to Kennedy's shoulder. He tried to follow up with a corner splash but got hung up on the top rope. Kennedy grabbed him and went up to the second rope, where he delivered his rolling fireman's carry slam to the mat.

Teddy Long announce that Kennedy would face the Undertaker at No Mercy on October 8.

Match 3: WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London & Brian Kendrick & Ashley vs. K.C. James & Idol Stevens & Michelle McCool

- London and Stevens started the match off. London was in a headlock but standing switch into a headlock of his own. London tagged Kendrick in and they hit a double team running, jumping forearms. Stevens tagged in James. Kendrick springboarded off the second rope to reverse a wristlock. He then tagged in London and held his arm, which London jumped off the top and hit with a sledge. Kendrick tagged back in and went up top, dropping an elbow on James' arm. Ashley tagged in and hit a sledge of her own to that arm before tagging London in who hit yet another sledge to the arm off the top rope. JBL compared James to Bobby Eaton. London hit a back elbow and went to follow up running the ropes, but Stevens pulled the middle rope down, sending London through the ropes.

Stevens bounced London face first off the apron. Stevens rolled him back in the ring and James covered, but London kicked out. JBL talked about how he made a loose cover and that it was a rookie mistake. Michelle McCool tagged in and delivered right and left handed slaps to London as James held him. Michelle tagged Stevens in. Stevens delivered a clubbing blow to the back and covered, but London kicked out at two.

Stevens delivered a knee to the spine and put on a headlock. James used his leg to help give Stevens some extra leverage behind the ref's back. Stevens went for a slam, but London slid out and rolled up Stevens. However, James kicked London in the head from the outside. Stevens put a leglock on London's right leg and tagged in James, who dropped an elbow and covered, but London kicked out at two.

London kicked James in the face coming off the rope. He ducked a clothesline from Stevens on the apron and punched Stevens ot the outside. London ducked under James and made the hot tag to Kendrick! He ran wild, including hitting dropkicks to both men. He signaled for the finish. He went to go dive to the outside, but Michelle McCool got in the ring and tried blocking him. However, Kendrick went to run anyway and Michelle moved out of the way, and Kendrick dived on Stevens on the outside. Ashley came in and attacked Michelle from behind. He took her into the guard and they were forced to blur her, uh, nether regions. James cmae in and tried pulling Ashley off, but Kendrick went up top and went for a sunset flip. He couldn't get James over, but London came over and hit the dropsault to send him over into the cover and Kendrick got the pin!

Match 4: Lashley vs. William Regal

- Lashley hit a big forearm knockdown early, followed by a scoop slam. Lashley whipped Regal into the turnbuckle hard. Vito kept calling William Regal by his old ring name, "Steven." Lashley suplexed Regal from the apron into the ring. Regal bailed to the outside, where Vito pulled up the back of his dress and shook his rump in Regal's face. Regal was freaked and Lashley took advantage, sending him back into the ring. Regal tried begging off and rolled to the outside, pulling Lashley out, but Lashley knocked Regal down with a right hand. Lashley was climbing the steps to get back in, but Regal pulled his leg out from under him, sending him face first into the steel steps.

Lashley Wins

Referee Nick Patrick was counting Lashley being out of the ring, but he got back in after the count of six. Regal delivered some kicks as Lashley tried to get back in to send him back to the floor. Regal hit a back elbow and kicked Lashley, then covered, but Lashley kicked out. Regal put on a submission hold, trapping an arm while holding onto Lashley's head. A USA chant started.

Regal hit a T-bone suplex and covered, but Lashley kicked out at two. Vito talked about how he goes out and dances with the ladies and is a real man's man. Regal delivered a kick to the ribs in the corner, but Lashley got a boot up in Regal's face. Lashley hit a belly to belly throw. Vito took a shot at Raw. Lashley hit a running clothesline, followed by a big clubbing blow to the back. Lashley signaled for the finish. He went for his running powerslam finisher, but Regal slid out and attacked Lashley from behind. However, Lashley turned around and speared Regal! He hooked the leg and picked up the victory.

A promo aired hyping up the TLC match between Edge and John Cena at Unforgiven next week, with Cena heading to Smackdown if he loses.

Match 5: Mike "The Miz" Mizanin vs. Matt Hardy

- Hardy put on a hammerlock early, but the Miz grabbed the ropes and begged off. Hardy mocked Miz's hoo rah. JBL asked why the Miz was on the show and asked if Kelly Osbourne was busy. Miz shoved Hardy down and pranced around the ring, then mocked Matt Hardy's version one hand sign. Hardy hit Miz with a big clothesline. Hardy splashed Miz in the corner, then pulled him back into a slam and a cover, but Miz kicked out. Miz pulled Hardy down and hung him up on the second rope. Miz then choked Hardy in the ropes. Miz did a move where he jumped up on Hardy's back, jumped over the top rope and guillotined Hardy over the second rope. Miz ran back in the ring and covered, but Hardy kicked out at one. Miz hit a snapmare takedown and locked on a submission. Miz rammed Hardy into the corner. He went to follow up, but Hardy moved out of the way and Miz hit the turnbuckle.

Hardy drove Miz to the mat, then kicked Miz in the side of the head. He fired up and hit a clothesline and a back elbow, then dropped an elbow and covered, but Miz kicked out. Hardy went to the second rope and did the Hardy yell, then dropped an elbow onto Miz. He signaled for Miz to get up, then hit the side effect and covered, but Miz kicked out. Cole took a shot at JBL, saying that MTV has more viewers than Cavuto on Business, but JBL pointed out that his audience has a higher per capita income.

Hardy went after Miz in the corner, but Miz got his elbow up. Miz went up top, but Hardy knocked him to the outside! Hardy slingshotted himself onto Miz on the outside. JBL was forced to put over Hardy due to his hatred for Miz. Hardy rolled Miz into the ring, knocking over the ref by accident. Hardy was climbing up top, but Gregory Helms shoved Hardy down while the ref wasn't looking. Miz rolled him up and got the win!

Match 6: Chavo Guerrero (with Vickie Guerrero) vs. Tatanka

- Tatanka started chopping away at Chavo, knocking him down with the second chop, then hit a tomahawk chop to the head. Tatanka went up to the top rope and hit a tomahawk off the top. He hooked the leg, but Chavo kicked out. Vickie applauded at ringside. Chavo threw a leg kick and followed with uppercuts. Tatanka lifted up Chavo and hit the Samoan drop or, as Tatanka calls it, the end of trail. He hooked the leg, but Chavo grabbed the bottom rope. Tatanka yelled at the ref that it should have been three. Chavo used the distraction to hit a blockbuster. Chavo went up top and pointed up, then hit the frog splash! He hooked the leg for the win!

Match 7: World Heavyweight Champion King Booker vs. Batista

- After a lot of back and forth action, Batista hit a clothesline, then another as he fired up. Batista whipped Booker into the corner and clotheslined him, then delivered a side slam and hooked the leg, but Booker kicked out! Batista yelled "Come on!" and picked Booker up, then delivered a delayed vertical suplex into a slam. He fired up and did the thumbs down bit, though he did it a little different than usual, with thumbs in the middle going to thumbs down. He went to grab Booker, but Booker grabbed him by the tights and sent him to the outside. Sharmell got up on the apron and was talking to the ref. Batista was trying to get up on the outside and took someone out who was trying to climb over the barricade.

Ouch!

The announcers didn't know who it was at first, but it was obviously William Regal, and he had brass knuckles on. JBL claimed that Batista just hit a fan. Batista got in the ring and delivered a spinebuster to Booker. They cut back and showed that it was Regal. Sharmell grabbed a steel chair and tried getting in the ring, but Batista put his foot on the chair and kicked it aside. The ref was dealing with Sharmell, but Finlay got up on the apron and Batista ran into a shillelagh shot to the head! Booker hooked the leg and picked up the win!
